Your Wazabe cultural journey begins in Kigoma, a lakeside town known for its historical trade routes and proximity to Lake Tanganyika. Upon arrival at Kigoma Airport, the Shaka Adventure Safari team will warmly welcome you and transfer you to a local eco-lodge. In the afternoon, you’ll be introduced to the Wazabe’s cultural background through a storytelling session hosted by our knowledgeable local guide. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Tanzanian welcome dinner, complete with regional music and dishes, while your guide prepares you for the cultural immersion ahead.

After breakfast, we set out on a scenic drive to the Wazabe homeland, passing rolling hills and remote farmlands. Upon arrival at the village, you’ll be formally welcomed by the tribal chief and community elders—a rare and powerful gesture of hospitality. Your day is filled with hands-on experiences: help the villagers harvest cassava or millet, weave mats with local women, and listen to ancestral stories under the sacred baobab trees. In the evening, gather around the communal fire for ceremonial drumming and traditional dance performed by villagers in full regalia. You’ll overnight in a comfortable homestay or Shaka’s mobile tented camp, depending on the season.

Wake up to the sound of roosters and the gentle rustling of banana trees. Today begins with a visit to a sacred site used for spiritual rituals, where elders demonstrate practices that connect the living to ancestral spirits. Learn about the Wazabe’s natural medicine, spirit altars, and herbal healing traditions. Later, take a walk to the shores of Lake Tanganyika, where Wazabe fishermen will show you traditional fishing methods. After a local lunch prepared by the women’s cooperative, you’ll participate in a hands-on cooking session or attend a youth storytelling session.
